ORANTA (GIFT)
Description:

Oranta (from Latin orans – “the one who prays”) is one of the main types of the image of the Mother of God. Oranta was depicted with her hands raised up – a gesture of prayer. This is one of the oldest gestures addressed to God and meant begging, pleading.

During the battle Moses prayed for his people, raising both hands to the sky. As long as he kept his hands in this position, the Jews were winning. When his hands were lowered, the enemies began to gain the upper hand.

The heavenly patroness of the capital of Ukraine, people call Oranta in St. Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv “The Inviolable Wall”.

It is created on the basis of a 100mm casing from an anti-tank shell used when shooting from the T12 “Rapier” gun.

This is our second work, Oranta, which we made at the request of our military friends. It was gifted to a Hero of Ukraine in December 2022, and it was an honor for us to create such a gift.
